"gutsy, no-nonsense food, simply cooked from the best ingredients" The Riverford Field Kitchen opened in 2005 and being the first of its kind in the country, was inspired by a trip Guy Watson made to Alice Water’s restaurant in San Francisco, where fresh, organic, seasonal produce is the starting point for any meal. Eating in the Field Kitchen is a memorable experience. Visitors returning from a tour or walk around the farm, experience how good the farm’s produce can taste, generously and imaginatively prepared by Jane Baxter and her team. Jane trained at the Carved Angel with Joyce Molyneux, in Dartmouth, before moving on to the River Café in London. This was followed by years travelling and cooking her way around the Southern Hemisphere, which greatly influenced her cooking style.

In the Field Kitchen, you can experience :

• set menus - with a meat, a vegetarian, or children’s option - making the best use of seasonal organic produce, fresh from the field
• a wide range of accompanying vegetable dishes (usually 5 or 6)
• a choice of irresistible puddings
• a relaxed and communal atmosphere
• a warm welcome to all - including families with young children

Meals are informal but our planning permission means that visitors:

• must accompany their meal with a farm tour, walk or other activity

The only extras are coffee and drinks. We are now licensed so you can buy wines and cider as well as local juices.
